CASA - A Path to Sustainability

CASA - A Path to Sustainability

THE ROAD TO GET HERE:

In 2016 we launched a four-year, $262,000 partnership with CASA of San Luis Obispo County. At the time, CASA served 32 percent of children in the foster care system. Today, they are serving 52%! By implementing a strategic long-term plan set by CASA, they were able to increase the number of children served and the number of advocates trained in North County.

THE NEED:

CASA of San Luis Obispo County advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system. They recruit, train, and supervise volunteers who advocate for this vulnerable population with the goal of ensuring that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.

CASA of San Luis Obispo County has been chasing an ambitious goal for many years - to be able to provide a volunteer advocate to every child in foster care. For years, they steadily served 25% to 30% of the children in need. Within the last year, they have achieved the 52% mark. While they recognized the level of achievement this mark meant, they also recognized that in order to continue to increase the children they serve, they needed to first ensure a strong infrastructure to continue to serve the SLO County children in foster care. This new organizational structure will allow CASA to reach the growth goals that future educational campaigns will fuel.

Our Commitment

This $50,000 investment provides structured guidance to actively engage CASA of San Luis Obispo’s paid and volunteer staff and Board of Directors to create a strategic plan to successfully scale CASA to see their mission to completion – that 100% of abused and neglected children in the court system will have a CASA Volunteer Advocate. In addition, the partnership provides for data reconditioning allowing them to use outcome data on foster children with and without assigned CASA volunteers to justify services, expand grant and funding opportunities, as well as increase awareness of the impact CASA has in foster care and the economic savings to County of San Luis Obispo.
