Boys & Girls Club - Shandon

Boys & Girls Club - Shandon

THE ROAD TO GET HERE: In 2012 we launched the first of several partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club. At the time one club was servicing 100 kids.  Since then, the club has not only grown to serve kids year-round in 2 cities in the north county, but also underwent a successful regional merger with Santa Maria Valley Clubs, and are now known as the Boys & Girls Club of the Mid Central Coast. By combining operations, they now have streamlined efficiencies as well as a greater footprint to serve.

50% of the youth come from single-parent households.

85% qualify for free & reduced lunch programs.

50% of families served are considered low income.

Boys and Girls Club programs and services will fill a much-needed gap by establishing programming onsite at the district's elementary school.  The Club will provide character and leadership development, education and career development, the arts, health and life skills, and sports, fitness, and recreation programming.

Our Commitment

This $150,000 investment will ensure that youth have a stable, reliable, and safe place to be after school and during school vacations and break periods.  must! funding will support vital time periods such as spring break, winter break, other holiday breaks and summer break when children are often left home alone. The Shandon School District agreed to match this three-year commitment to provide after school support for their youth during the school year. The collaboration is a true example of communities coming together to serve the youth that need us most. This project allows us to connect Shandon youth with nationally recognized youth development programs developed and monitored by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We intend to address the needs of the individual child attending the Club and create action plans for them to achieve academic success.

Program Sustainability will Result From:  Sustainability for long-term operations will be achieved by well-planned, vetted and thoughtful funding partnerships. This Shandon site growth will be methodical and each new site after will only be warranted via multi-year commitments from our dedicated funding partners. Boys & Girls Club will develop a resource development plan focusing on fund diversity and will develop an Advisory Committee Development Plan.
